Bell Bottomed Jeans

I've been down with the flu for over a week now and was beginning to get a little stir crazy.  I decided a little altering might make me feel better so this is what I did with my Saturday afternoon.

1) I took an old pair of jeans and replaced the pockets with
some from another old pair.  I never liked the way the pockets
on this pair looked...too small.

2) I then made slits from the ankle to the knee on both sides
of the pant leg.  For my leg this was about 15 inches.

3) From another old pair of jeans I took rectangular pieces
15 inches in height with a base of approximately 6 inches.
I pinned right sides together and stitched in place.

4) After stitching triangles into place, I turned right side out
and pressed with my iron.  Impressive flare!

My husband said I need to iron these a
little better to get the right look but I'd say
my first stab at bell bottoms was a success!

Groovy Baby!

    1. It would do us all well to recycle more, I think! Plus, it's fun to challenge yourself to be creative! Thank you for visiting and encouraging!

      Warm wishes from Kansas!

    1. Thank you Linda! I agree, the pockets are nice! It's funny because I've had these jeans forever but didn't like the pockets so I never wore them. I think I'll like them a lot better now.

  5. Okay, I'll admit it. I must be drastically behind the fashion times, as usual. Are bell-bottoms back in style again? If so, this is not good for me. I have such short little legs that the flares at the bottom make me look like a munchkin. (Not that that stopped me from wearing them the last time they were in style.) ;o}

You are very, very good at alterations!

    1. Mama Pea,

I have no idea whether or not bell bottoms are back in style again but I do see Old Navy television commercials with flare leg pants that look suspiciously like bell-bottoms. I just thought it would be fun to try! You make me laugh with the vision of you looking like a munchkin! I'll bet you are adorable, munchkin or not!

Thank you for the encouraging words!

    1. Why yes, it does! Leftovers from Christmas decorations....I've been too lazy to remove it and it's holding up remarkably well! Could be a wonderful alternative to stained glass I suppose.....

  7. Those are cute and your Dh must be creative and handy as well to say that about the ironing, actually a very good eye on his part. You could even maybe sew a top stitch seam on those seams and get them to lay out a bit more flat and stay that way :O), then you probably would not need to press them each time you wash them :O). Very cute you did a very good job! I admire your just do it attitude :O).

    1. Texan,

That is a great idea! I think I will sew a top stitch so I don't have to press them often. I'm not big on ironing! Thanks for the encouragement and the advice!

      Have a great day!

  9. I think those turned out really great. Oh, and if you ever want to go really wild, you can try a print fabric.or add some embellishments :) :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
